and the Sussex Lions Club established the first Leo’s Club in New Brunswick last summer, and many Portage Resident have become young members of the Lions Club (Leos) since that time.  Now, Portage Atlantic’s Leos have their very own vests.

To become a Leo, residents interview with Luc Desjardins, Program Manager at Cassidy Lake, and are then paired with a Lion in a nearby community.  Luc has been organising outings and meetings for the Leos, who have been involved in different activities in the area, reaching out a helping hand to people in need.

“The Leos Club at Cassidy Lake thus far has served as an extremely beneficial learning process for the youth, teaching them the importance of volunteer work,” states Luc.  Randi Cogswell, who is responsible for the aftercare program, is also encouraging recent Portage graduates to get involved with the club.

In March, the Kennebecasis Lion’s Club held a fundraiser in Rothesay with proceeds going to Portage Atlantic. The $9,500 raised will go towards landscaping and a small barn for the landscaping equipment, cable television, and an automated external defibrillator (AED) machine.
