September 21st, 2010 marked the beginning of a landscaping project at Portage Atlantic’s residential rehabilitation substance abuse treatment centre at Cassidy Lake. The kick-off for this project was made possible in part by the RCMP Foundation, the Riverview Lions, and Frederick Hann and Associates.
Fred Hann of Frederick Hann and Associates will provide guidance for this endeavour, which will span over the next few years.
The objective of the project is to bring Portage residents and the community together to create a beautiful outdoor surrounding to complement the new centre. The “Hands On” Landscaping Project will create a sense of ownership for the youth involved, and will become their legacy at Portage.
The entrance of the new main building will be the first area to be worked on by the team of youth, RCMP officers, and community partners. While enhancing the look of the site is one positive outcome, many other significant benefits will accrue to youth and community organisations involved in the project.
