On May 15, forty guests attended a Portage Atlantic Community Breakfast in Corner Brook, Newfoundland. Portage Atlantic has received youth from Corner Brook in the past, and this community gathering was a means to reconnect with the community and increase awareness in Newfoundland and Labrador about the Portage drug rehabilitation program being offered in New Brunswick.
Among those present were the Mayor of Corner Brook, members of the city police force and the RCMP, school guidance counsellors, local Lions club members, representatives from Addictions Services, provincial courts, a local transition house, low income housing providers, and organisations such as the YMCA, AA, and the Native Status of Women.
The local media attended and published an article about the rehabilitation program provided at Cassidy Lake. As a result, Portage Atlantic received a request from community members in Stephenville, Newfoundland to go present a second information session there.
