On November 13th, 2010, Cassidy Lake Unit Manager Luc Desjardins attended the annual meeting of l’Association des parents francophones du Nouveau-Brunswick in Edmundston. Mr. Desjardins addressed the audience of about two hundred parents to provide information about the services provided at Portage Atlantic for youth struggling with drug and alcohol dependency. Following his address, Portage Atlantic resident and Edmundston native, Dominic, took the podium to share his own experiences leading up to admittance to Portage. Dominic told his story of how he came to be a resident at Portage Atlantic’s residential treatment centre at Cassidy Lake, and reflected on how his life has changed as he has progressed throughout the program.
Both Portage representatives were very well received and the Association thanked Dominic and Mr. Desjardins for sharing their important messages. Portage Atlantic appreciated the opportunity to connect with New Brunswick’s North Shore francophone community, as many youth from this region have found help at Cassidy Lake.
