April 12th, 2010 – Portage Atlantic will be hosting a Community Breakfast on Monday, April 12th from 8:00 to 9:30 am at the Fairmount Algonquin Hotel in St. Andrews, New Brunswick. The theme of this gathering is entitled “Freedom from Addiction”
Charlotte County Mayors invite you to join them and the Portage representatives for an information session on services offered by Portage. Information about the Portage youth rehabilitation program will be provided by Guest Speakers Brenda Sansom, from the Portage Atlantic Board of Directors, and Portage Admissions Officer Tambrie Hicks. Many youth and their families from the Charlotte County region and have been supported by the Portage program at Cassidy Lake. A testimonial will be given by a graduate of the program.
The facility at Cassidy Lake is a residential treatment centre for youth between the ages of 14 and 21 with serious substance abuse problems. The bilingual Portage program offered to youth is based on the therapeutic community model, which through positive peer pressure and role modeling, helps youth increase their self-esteem by learning positive coping mechanisms and transferable skills.
