As a beneficiary of The Foranzi Group’s Power of Sports for Kids Program, Portage Atlantic has received over $4,000 worth of sporting equipment and a monetary donation of $5,000. The Cassidy Lake rehabilitation centre is now stocked with new hockey sticks, basketballs, and volleyballs, knee pads, yoga mats, strength training balls, skipping ropes, two free-standing basketball nets, among other things. All donated sporting goods were provided by the Sport Chek store in Fredericton.
The Foranzi Group’s Power of Sports for Kids Program is a nationwide initiative created to recognise groups and organisations that support at-risk or disadvantaged children and youth, who would benefit from the infusion of sports and activity in their lives.
Sports and recreational programming are integral components of the treatment process at the Cassidy Lake residential centre, encouraging youth to adopt a healthy lifestyle while developing skills such as leadership, teamwork, self-confidence, and self-control.
Portage Atlantic helps young people overcome their substance abuse problems and live healthy, happy, and active lives in their communities. Thanks to supporters like the Forzani Group, the extra-curricular program at Cassidy Lake will continue to play an important role in these efforts.
