About Portage

Thanks to the Community Board of TELUS, teenagers in Saint-Malachie have been attending judo classes every Monday since last September. Led by instructor Diane Couture , the boys learn better self-control which in turn helps them manage their level of aggressiveness. They also work on their sense of balance, respect, muscle mass and cardiovascular system.

A weekly class for girls has been available since October. Because some of the girls have experienced trauma and assault in the past, the teacher has included self-defense training to help boost their self-confidence.
The martial arts program has existed for several years at Portage Cassidy Lake, in New-Brunswick. It gives residents the opportunity to apply the teamwork skills acquired at Portage while getting some exercise at the same time.

Portage thanks TELUS for helping to make this program possible at Portage Saint-Malachie.
