Monday, the 21st of June 2018 , 124 golfers and 40 cyclists descended on the prestigious Club Laval-sur-le-Lac for the 21st edition of the Golf and Cycle Tour organized by Portage. This year, a total of $163,500 was raised to benefit the programs developed for the adolescents of Portage. A record amount for this event!
The course was perfect, ready for the first tee-offs. The asphalt, warmed by the sun, was ready for the cyclists to hit the road. The 2018 edition of the Portage Golf and Cycling Tour was yet again, an incredible success. Under the brilliant sun, the participants had the chance to show off their cycling talent throughout the entire course, designed specifically for the occasion. The golf enthusiasts, in turn, demonstrated that the Laval-sur-le-Lac golf course was prime grounds on which to play.
With the honorary chairmanship of the president Mr. Pierre Dépatie, Vice President of Business Development at Intact Insurance, the Portage Golf and Cycling Tour brought forth a crucial contribution to the drug addiction rehabilitation programs for francophone and anglophone adolescents at lac Écho, in the Laurentians. This residential campus welcomes youth aged 14 to 18 years of age suffering from drug addiction. The personalized treatment and the help provided by the therapeutic community allowed them to experience a true rebirth, all the while continuing their studies with the goal of becoming active citizens.
The evening was orchestrated by the master of ceremonies, Mr. Guy Nadeau, the General Director of Desjardins Entreprises and President of Portage’s annual fundraising campaign. The generous participants also had the privilege of listening to the moving and vibrant testimonial of an ex-Portage graduate.
During this event, Portage extended a heartfelt thank you to all of its partners: Intact Assurance, Desjardins, Cominar, IBM Canada, Cisco, Xerox and R2I. We would also like to thank the participants and volunteers that have enabled Portage to help today’s youth regain sober, happy and productive lives.
