Mr. Normand Rivest’s VisiAction training program states that emotional intelligence helps us to manage our own emotions and to properly understand and even anticipate the emotions of others. On June 29, 2012, he taught the staff team at the MIRE (Movement for Integration and Retention in Employment) about how to harness their emotional intelligence and apply it to the therapeutic community.
Participants learned that the five principles of emotional intelligence are self-awareness, self-control, the ability to self-motivate, empathy, and interpersonal skills. They worked on developing certain skills, such as constructive communication, active listening, anger management, and conflict resolution. The staff team greatly appreciated the training.
