Every Tuesday, residents at the Cassidy Lake rehabilitation centre for youth partake in various types of organised physical activity. Judo and yoga classes have been staples for quite some time, and now kickboxing classes have been added to the mix.
Portage residents’ regular participation in on-site physical activities has many positive impacts, as they learn to have fun within a drug-free lifestyle.
Portage seeks to give residents a taste for different activities, so that once they reintegration into mainstream society they will have new healthy interests and pastimes. Through this programming, many of the youth rediscover activities and sports that they once loved to practice, but had abandoned because of their drug use.
