About Portage

02-11-2013

Portage is grateful to be one of the beneficiaries of Bell’s third annual Let’s Talk Day on February 12, 2013. The Let’s Talk campaign invites all Canadians to “start the conversation” about mental illness in order to fight the lingering stigma that keeps too many people from seeking the help they need.

On February 12, Bell will donate 5 cents for every text message sent and every long distance call made by Bell customers, as well as for every tweet using #BellLetsTalk and every Facebook share of the Bell Let’s Talk image to programs dedicated to mental health. According to Bell, eight million people participated in last year’s Let’s Talk Day, generating 78 million text messages, long distance calls, and retweets on Twitter, which allowed Bell to donate $3.9 million to mental health initiatives.

Many people who struggle with substance abuse also have some mental health issues. Portage’s Mentally Ill Chemical Abusers Program, established in 1995, treats mental illness and drug addiction as well as their interaction. The program is based on the therapeutic community approach of self-help, mutual support, and positive reinforcement. At the end of treatment, individuals enjoy more autonomy and a better quality of life.

Please support the Bell Let’s Talk campaign and spread the word to your friends and family members on the Bell network that their texts and long distance calls will make a difference on February 12.
