On August 16, 2011, seventy adolescents and 20 staff members from all of Portage’s centres in Québec, plus a delegation from the New Brunswick centre, gathered at the Portage centre in Prévost, in the Laurentian Mountains for the 2011 Portage Olympics.
Year after year, Olympics Week is a very positive experience for all participants. This trip serves as a springboard for the adolescents towards social reintegration, validating the skills they have acquired during their treatment in a friendly environment filled with sports, good-natured competition, and entertainment..
“I’m extremely pleased with how this visit is going. The youngsters are getting a huge amount out of it, because, by sharing their different experiences, they see that they’re not the only ones with addiction problems, and they feel less alone in their process. I’m sure this experience will help them along their path toward a life free from addiction-related problems,” stated François Bourdon, Director of the Portage centre in Prévost.
