Montreal, September 25, 2008 – On September 25th more than 500 guests gathered in the Salle des pas perdus of Windsor Station to express their esteem, respect and friendship for Alban D’Amours, Outgoing President and Chief Executive Officer of Desjardins Group. The Tribute Evening to Alban D’Amours was organized to honour his outstanding contribution to Portage and to the business community and well-being of our society.
The glittering event took place in the presence of Prime Minister of Québec Jean Charest under the honorary chairmanship of Monique F. Leroux, President and Chief Executive Officer of Desjardins Group, and benefited from generous sponsors. Portage would like to thank its main sponsor, Desjardins; its GOLD sponsors Bell Canada, Caisse de depôt et placement du Québec, Cirque du Soleil, Groupe Canam, Power Corporation of Canada and Saputo, and its SILVER sponsors Bombardier, Domtar, Medisys Health Group and National Bank Financial Group. As a result of the participation and contributions of companies and individuals who support Portage’s humanitarian mission, a cheque in the amount of $400,000 was presented to Portage Québec.
Since 1970 Portage has treated over 33,000 substance abusers and their families with an outstanding record of success. Portage provides help for some of the most vulnerable members of the community: young people, the mentally ill chemical abusers, substance-abusing mothers and their children and pregnant addicts. Portage graduates can benefit from the services offered by the MIRE program (Mouvement pour l’intégration et la rétention en emploi) created in association with Fondation Lucie et André Chagnon.
Portage operates eight drug addiction treatment centres across Québec: in Montréal, Beaconsfield, Québec City, Prévost (the Laurentians) and Saint-Damien-de-Buckland (Chaudière-Appalaches). Two other centres serve Ontario and Atlantic Canada.
