22th Annual Charity Golf Tournament
Guelph, ON, June 10, 2016 – Last night, The Co-operators presented a cheque for $68,000 to Portage Ontario in support of its residential substance abuse rehabilitation centre for adolescents in Elora. The money was raised at 22nd Annual Charity Golf Tournament, a fundraising event organized by volunteer employees of The Co-operators. Each year a new recipient organization is selected, and over its 22-year history, the event has raised a total of $656,250 for community organizations in the Guelph area.
Portage is a non-profit organization that helps people suffering from substance abuse-related problems to overcome their dependencies and lead healthy, happy and productive lives. Its centre for adolescents in Elora was established in 1985 and has since treated more than 4,000 young people from every region of Ontario.
“We are honoured to have been chosen as the beneficiary of The Co-operators Golf Tournament committee,” said Sourav Addy, director of development for Portage Ontario. “Portage relies upon private donations to maintain and enhance its residential program and aftercare services and activities. The generous support received through The Co-operators Golf Tournament will help at-risk youth with serious substance abuse problems overcome their addiction issues at Elora. It will also have a positive impact in our community.”
Organized entirely by Co-operators volunteers, the charity golf tournaments began in 1995. All money raised goes to support a different local organization each year that provides important community services in or around Guelph, where The Co-operators is headquartered.
