Montreal, October 2, 2006 – On September 21 some 400 guests gathered in the Salle des pas perdus at Windsor Station to express their esteem, respect and friendship for Rémi Marcoux, founder and Executive Chairman of Transcontinental Inc. The Tribute Evening to Rémi Marcoux Night was organised by Portage to honour his unconditional support for its work for some 20 years, as well as his outstanding contribution to Québec’s business community and social well-being.
The glittering event took place under the honorary chairmanship of Pierre Genest, Chairman of SSQ Financial Group, and generous sponsorship of organizations including Bell Canada, Cirque du Soleil, National Bank Financial, Power Corporation, Roasters Foundation, Saputo and Transcontinental Inc. Thanks to donations from companies and individuals who care about Portage’s humanitarian vision, a cheque for $350,000 was turned over to the organization.
Since its founding 33 years ago, Portage has helped over 30,000 individuals overcome drug addiction. Today the organisation offers a variety of programs tailored to beneficiaries’ needs at 10 centres across the country. Portage is grateful to everyone whose generosity is helping to give those who want to break free of drugs a second chance in the hope of a better life.
