Portage atlantic volunteers recognition gathering

Cassidy Lake, April 19, 2016 – Portage Atlantic has been blessed to have had many dedicated volunteers who through hard work and determination have made the Portage Atlantic drug rehabilitation treatment centre at Cassidy Lake what it is today.

On April 19th, 2016, Portage Atlantic staff members, youth, and volunteers were on-hand at the rehabilitation centre at Cassidy Lake for a special gathering to highlight the organisation’s extraordinary volunteers. Investors Group of Saint John sponsored the gathering, providing for a lunch for the over 80 guests.

Mrs. Joelene Burgess, Clinical Caseworker, from the Portage Atlantic centre, spoke to the volunteers saying « To all volunteers, past and present, take a moment and look at what you’ve done. Portage Atlantic is a living testament of hard work and perseverance you have provided over the years. This gathering today takes on a whole new meaning because this year we are celebrating 20 years of successes and challenges. Over the last two decades, Portage Atlantic has touched over 3000 lives and you have been part of it.”
Portage Atlantic is blessed to work with such dedicated volunteers who, through hard work and determination, have helped Atlantic youth struggling with addiction to overcome substance abuse and become productive members of society.

Thank you to our volunteers many times over for your enthusiasm and caring.

Portage Atlantic operates a residential treatment facility for youth between the ages of 14 and 21 with serious substance abuse problems. The bilingual program is based on the therapeutic community approach which, through positive peer role modelling, helps residents to build their self-esteem and learn how to better handle life’s challenges without resorting to drug abuse. Portage is accredited by Accreditation Canada.
