September 25, Ontario – Portage Ontario hosted its annual recognition ceremony at the Grand Theatre in Fergus. Attended by over 120 individuals, it recognized 23 youth for program completion and six youth for positive lifestyle (remaining sober for over a year after completing their program). It was an emotive moment for the graduates and their families. Current residents cheered the graduates and there was special cheer for the three alumni returning as program volunteers. There was tumultuous applause and cheering when all staff were called to the stage by Facility Director, Bruce Ferguson. There was sobering silence when tribute was paid to Charles Ireton and a special gift presented to his parents, Bonnie and Charlie. The Honourable Liz Sandals, President,Treasury Board attended the event and stayed for the entire program hour despite a packed schedule. The Honourable Michael Coteau, Minister of Children and Youth Services send his greetings and best wishes on the occasion.
