Under the supervision of the Vice President of Operations and Administration, the Finance Director’s main functions are managing, planning, organizing, evaluating, monitoring, and supervision of all activities related to finance and accounting.


  • Ensures the smooth running of the finance department as a whole
  • Provides management and supervision of the finance department and provides the required coaching for their team
  • Acts as an advisor and expert to management and managers of the organization with respect to any accounting or financial issues
  • Plans, coordinates and ensures the smooth running of all financial schedules (budgets, government reports, audited financial statements, etc.) of all Portage centers in collaboration with the services and centers
  • Manages the month-end exercise; analyzes financial statements, compares them to budgets and obtains an explanation for differences
  • Develops the financing plan for capital procurement
  • Procures and produces financial reports required for special projects
  • Evaluates the financial reporting systems, accounting practices and investment initiatives, and proposes changes to procedures, operating systems, budgets and other financial controlled functions to the organization’s senior management and managers
  • Designs, analyzes, recommends and implements rules, procedures, accounting methods, and internal financial and accounting control procedures in order to protect the organization’s assets
  • Supervises the development of the overall Portage budget (several fiscal companies) in collaboration with senior management
  • Evaluates financial risk, prepares financial forecasts, financing scenarios and other reports concerning capital management and prepares various reports and recommendations
  • Oversees financial portfolio returns
  • Notifies and reports to senior management regarding any trends that are critical to the organization’s financial performance
  • Plans short term and long term cash flows and evaluates the performance of cash accounts
  • Completes follow-ups on financial applications with funders
  • Fulfills any other related task at the request of their immediate supervisor


  • Member of the Portage Finance Committee
  • You may be asked to participate in some external and internal committees


  • Hold a Bachelor's Degree in Accounting, Commerce or Business Administration
  • Hold a recognized CPA accounting designation (CA, CGA or CMA)
  • Minimum 5 years of relevant experience in a similar position
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in team management
  • Bilingual: French and English spoken and written (mandatory)
  • Excellent knowledge of Microsoft Office: Excel expert level (mandatory)
  • Knowledge of UKG-Dimension Software (asset)
  • Ability to negotiate and persuade
  • Autonomy and good organizational skills
  • Initiative
  • Excellent analytical skills, discretion and judgment
  • Ability to work under pressure


  • Job Type: Permanent, Full-time, 35 hours per week
  • Schedule: Monday to Friday - Hybrid mode
  • Salary: to be discussed according to experience
