The winter months went by quickly for the residents at Portage’s Mentally Ill Chemical Abusers Program, thanks to a pretty full schedule of activities for the residents, including cooking workshops, water polo, museum visits, cosom hockey, and art therapy. There’s also a mini-gym and a billiards table at the centre that residents enjoy during free time.
These cultural and recreational activities are an important part of the social reintegration component of the addiction rehabilitation program, not only providing the residents with opportunities to put into practice the tools they have been learning in treatment, but also helping them develop new interests and hobbies that they can enjoy without drugs.
