As the Community Care program counsellor, you promote Portage to the community, identify partners/stakeholders and develop/maintain relations with them in Greater Moncton. You are responsible for providing direct support, guidance and intervention to participants. You offer low threshold and nonjudgmental interventions, work towards treatment readiness; treatment alignment; lowering anxiety; and defining expectations with clients
Community Outreach (40%)
Promote Portage’s Atlantic program menu of service through community presentations, on-site visits and telephone calls to potential community partners
Build lasting relationships with the relevant Greater Moncton organizations and individuals(associations, schools, universities, social clubs, ethnic communities, civil servants, and government bodies)
Manage and maintain existing key partners and hold meetings as necessary
Develop new strategic relationships
Develop and negotiate new referral sources
Plan, coordinate and accomplish development activities in the region of Greater Moncton.
Have a good understanding of different government bodies (e.g.: Justice, Public Safety, Health, Mental Health and Addictions, Education and Early Childhood Development, Public Health)
Develop strategies and partnerships with different Child and Youth teams within the schools in the region.
Ensure Portage’s contribution in the region
Record all documentation as required (partner database, outreach efforts)
Any other related task
Counselling (60%)
Welcome and evaluate all participants’ needs to meet the criteria for the CCP program
Organize and facilitate groups and meetings to match the needs of participants
Observe and analyze the behaviour of participants
Be involved in assessing their needs and capabilities and note their progress by drafting the appropriate documents
Contribute to the development of the intervention plan
Write observation reports, evaluation reports and behavioural syntheses on a weekly basis
College degree in addiction, dependency, psychology, communication, or a related field
Experience working within a not-for-profit and/or social services environment (asset)
Knowledge of issues related to addiction and mental health, in a community setting or therapeutic community
Knowledge of community resources and addiction treatment services (asset)
English and French (asset)
Excellent interpersonal, leadership and communication skills
Autonomy and organizational skills, integrity, trustworthiness and a sense of ethics
Demonstrate a commitment and ability to outline plans to develop significant partnerships
Job Type: Temporary, full-time, 37.5 hours per week – 2 years contract
Schedule: Monday to Friday – day shift – flexible hours with potential need to work on evenings
