Portage Atlantic held its 3rd annual gala fundraising dinner in Moncton, New Brunswick, on June 14, 2019. The objective of this yearly event is to create awareness towards drug addiction and raise funds to sustain, and improve Portage’s programs and services. Members of the business community, Portage’s Board of Directors, staff members, past residents and youth in aftercare who were accompanied by their families were in attendance.

Following an elegant, albeit relaxed, cocktail, the guests were invited into the main room for a gastronomical dinner. M. Dan Martell, Silicon Valley entrepreneur, investor and Portage Alumni, was the first to speak about how instrumental Portage was in his recovery, insisting on how the program at Cassidy Lake helped him rebuild his self-esteem and confidence. “None of that would’ve happened if I hadn’t made it through. What took place while I was at Portage has forever changed my life” told the speaker, who’s referred to as an ‘’online marketing expert’’ by the Financial Post.

Then came the testimony of a Portage resident, who was the epitome of the story of several families fighting addiction, filled with emotion, adversity and courage. These testimonials help to sensitize the guests present to the problem of dependence and to the hope of a healthy and productive life.

Guests were then invited to bid on several art pieces made by Portage residents as well as a bike during a live auction.  Finally, the evening ended with the vocal trio Les Trois Elles, who came to perform their Acadian-tinged songs much to the delight of the attendees.  All funds raised at this event will be dedicated to the Portage Atlantic Residential Rehabilitation Program.
